The Canberra Problem!

They should have left the Federation Capital in Melbourne – Merge Canberra with Melbourne!

  1. Lack of natural light
  2. No natural insulation – beaches, mountains etc …
  3. Inhospitable weather (& extreme weather) – shocking weather
  4. Frost, fog, hail, dryness – conditions not present in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin etc … burning sun
  5. Therefore not energy efficient!
  6. A compromise solution by Politicians not City Planners!
  7. Analogous to using the correct Data Structure in Computer Science
  8. Breathe flies
  9. Also not enough ‘natural’ water
  10. The trip from Melbourne to Albury is the most boring in Australia – trees, shrubs, grass, hills and rocks
  11. 7 degrees to 45 degrees – 50 degree temperature range
  12. A surreal environment

Sydney and Melbourne would then be …

  • Connected by a high speed rail link (including freight)
  • Connected by toll road (all the way – along the Coast – between $20 - $100 to travel the whole way)
  • Connected by high speed Internet
  • Many more flights between Sydney & Melbourne
  • Etc …

Preference Development along Coastal High Speed Rail Link

  • Population Growth will preference along the coast (around Sydney & Melbourne)
  • That is preference development in Central Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong etc .. over Goulburn etc …

Comparative Advantages of Sydney v Melbourne

  • Sydney (being the landing spot of the First Fleet) should also be the: Transportation, Port, Logistics etc …
  • Sydney is the Financial Capital, Media Capital
  • Melbourne is the Administrative Capital
  • Sydney – Melbourne duopoly runs Australia
  • Government Agencies could be divided between Sydney and Melbourne
  • e.g. Fair Work Ombudsman (Department of Employment) spans both Administration & Business

Remember the reason anyone ever goes to or lives in Canberra …
