Strictly speaking ~ Quintessential Australia not the ‘best’ place for an ISV.

  • Taxation Laws in Australia tend to be tilted toward Mining, Farming, Tourism which are heavily dependent on common goods or social goods
  • Contrast to an ISV whom does not have such dependencies on external factors & almost complete control
  • Similarly these arguments could be applied to Australian Workplace Laws and even Australian Consumer & Competition Law
  • ISV’s are still welcome to set up here – there are still a few successful ones around!

Limitations of the Public Cloud [again] !!

Does it really make a difference whether you pay for storage on a local hard drive or Cloud hard drive

  • Because nothing is free!

The World Wide Web might be ~0.5% of the technology industry:

  • That is running in a browser over Port 80 or Port 443!

Horizontal (not Vertical) expansion of Microsoft Office!

  • Everyone loves Office!
  • As computers get faster, the Internet gets faster, more storage space!
  • Horizontal Integration to Office – NOT vertical!
  • A great (pseudo) Private Cloud product!
  • Microsoft Project was a great addition!

Even in Voluntary work ... you still need a skill!

Think of Altruism - for an Uber driver or Airbnb host to go that little extra mile for a paying customer …

A point on Demand Forecasting for Implementation Partners.

Well there's no point in trying to forecast when iPhones break, they break when they break

Ditto Implementation Partners trying to forecast when customers want to implement SharePoint, Project Server, CRM or Skype for Business
Customers are ready to buy when they’re ready to buy

So do you really want to jam these into the cash flow of a [permanent] employee?

If you already drive a taxi - consider driving an Uber!

You already have a HUGE number of business advantages in transitioning across:

  • Holder of a T License
  • Breeze through Taxi Induction
  • You can understand and sign all paperwork associated with Taxi services
  • No issue with getting the ‘first job’
  • You will probably already have a larger than average vehicle
  • A track record of Customer Service experience

Gotta hand it to the Private Cloud for the cost of storage over the Public Cloud.

Subscription

Price

Price per GB

OneDrive 50GB

50GB for $50 for 2 years

$1+ per GB

2 TB Hard Drive

$100

5c per GB

So at the time of writing Private Cloud Storage is (less than) 5% of the price of Online Storage!

Material Facts are everything in 21st Century Legal Reasoning!

If we concentrate on Material Facts in building up a case;

  • The priority is to collect new information and material facts
  • Not identifying legal issues and spinning legal arguments!

Google is certainly somewhat central!
Something for it's competitors (such as Microsoft) to look at!

Important ways to collect information:
  • Web Search
  • Phone Call (IP and telephony)
  • Messaging (IP and telephony)
  • E-mail
  • Physical (go to retail shop, ask somebody at work, in your house etc …)
  • Inspection of computer environment
  • Many others ...
Due to copyright … a bit harder …

  • Books (including Internet versions)
  • Magazines (including Internet versions)
  • Television (including Internet versions)
So hence we conclude - High Speed Internet is critical!

In obtaining Information generally – this highlights the importance of high speed, reliable and ubiquitous Internet
Because Information is everything!

Friday 5 October 2018

And that's our motto!

We keep booming along with the technology ... until business and / or political problems hit!

Monday 1 October 2018

Australian uses of Drones – farming, mining, tourism, government, building …

  • Mining – fly over to photograph a crevice
  • Farming – take photographs of property, help mend broken fence
  • Surveillance e.g. Security & Police
  • Etc …

Statements about Drones

  • Myriad of legalities! Privacy etc …
  • I don't think Microsoft should get into drones!
  • There are no laws around drones (yet)!
  • So a serious business tool.

Smart Toilets need Ecosystems & Resellers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJIZ13ehjzo
  • Great for:
  • Public Toilets
  • Music Festivals
  • Economics of it not so great in private dwellings!
  • As Microsoft knows (re)-selling is very powerful!

Privatising the Royal Australian Mint and Note Printing Australia!

  • From an ex-collector’s perspective!
  • Allow for more high value denomination coins:
  • $20, $25, $50, $100, $200, $250 coins
  • $500, $1000, $2000 coins
  • Currency is going out of fashion – it’s for collector’s now!

Similarly for Australian Bank Notes.

  • $200, $250, $500, $1000, $2000 bank notes
  • Excellent Diplomatic gifts (e.g. think Olympics and tokens that might be worth exchanging and worth your while)
  • Many wealthy & interested investors in Asia & the Middle East!

Apple really should look at a unique way of 'franchising' its shops particularly in Australia!

Here's some excellent locations for Apple shops that don't already have shops!

Darwin
Northern Territory Government terms might not be acceptable for Apple, especially with regards to Police, Education etc ...
Good location due to Kakadu

Alice Springs
Northern Territory Government terms might not be acceptable for Apple
Good location due to Uluru

Cairns
Close to Barrier Reef and other tourist locations

Broome
Another great tourist location

Castle Hill
?? Not sure why they put an Apple Shop here ??

Other good locations in Regional Australia
This general Regional Area is certainly under-represented for Apple presence.

Locations of Apple Shops (NZ)

  • Additionally Apple Shops in New Zealand have been slow to rollout.

What’s wrong with the public cloud anyway? – Inevitable trade offs when your data is thousands of km away …

  • Too many small silos that are difficult to interconnect …
  • Difficult to customize…

Examples of the Last Mile outside as well as transport.

  • Postal Service
  • Internet to the Hub
  • Working from Home as opposed to Working from Hubs

The Concept of the Private Cloud.

Cloud is much more than the colloquial Public Cloud … it also collectively represents the benefits of centralisation, economies of scale, sharing etc … not to mention the Microsoft hybrid, community and private clouds … as well as Community clouds in General

In everyday life … it’s going the Cloud way!!

  • Physiotherapist
  • Car Washing

Potential to go Cloud if people could just get their act together!!

  • Gym

Advantages of Private Cloud

 Disadvantages of Public Cloud

  • Do not have full control over DNS
  • Cannot have different DEV, TEST, PRE-PROD environments
  • Do not have access to full debugging and APIs
  • No local data transfer rates (i.e. Ethernet 1TBs-1, USB3 10GBs-1 )
  • Lose control of Backups
  • ...

You still need a Private Cloud!

Private Cloud hosted in Public Cloud can assist in transition from Public Cloud to Private Cloud
But that’s about it!

Anyway:

  • Companies exceeding certain turnover & revenue (size) can run their own infrastructure
  • Litmus Test: Internet Connections for an SME … also include Ping Test & Network Latency

After a certain point it becomes cost-effective to own your own hardware!

  • Azure VPS, CloudShare can be very expensive
  • Does  not necessarily make sense to rent given how cheap computers continually become!

Suburban Transport Hubs

 A suburban transport hub should have;

  • (More shops)
  • Taxi stand
  • Bike paths
  • Bike lanes
  • Bike lockers
  • Foot paths
  • Bus stops
  • Bus shelters
  • Bus lanes
  • Express bus stops
  • Express train stops
  • Air trains [if applicable]
  • Private Security
  • Public Security
  • First Aid
  • Vending Machines that use Credit Cards
  • Recharge an electric taxi …
  • Paid parking
  • Ticket Recharge
  • etc ...

A Central train station would have:

  • Interstate Rail
  • Express Train Stops
  • Motor Rail
  • Air Train
  • Freight Trains
  • etc ...

Commonwealth Government Geographic Responsibilities

Commonwealth Government (headquartered in Canberra) has responsibility for (not just the Australian landmass):

  • Australian Maritime Area
  • Australian Antarctic Territory (Australia has very large Territory)
  • Australian Space Area

NBN for Fibre to the Hub not Fibre to the Home.

80% of the functionality at 20% of the cost
Working from home -> working from a hub
  • Residential zoning is not light Industrial!
  • Temperature control
  • Electricity – plug in all these devices and knock out your appliances!
  • Adverse effects on liquidity of the Property

We don’t want high mobile and data reception everywhere! Only high data & reception in certain designated hubs!

Telehealth and TeleEducation Scenarios are more economic through Fibre to the Hub:
also even for Internet TV there are many provisions for making Content available off-line

- the only exception is Live Sport!

---

Most interesting scenarios (and should therefore get most of the funding)

NBN Co. - a Grants Management company - not to drown in technical details!

For Profit Businesses:
  • Large Restaurant Chains (e.g. McDonalds)
  • Large Cafe Chains (e.g. Coffee Club, Dome, etc ...)
Even Bunnings and OfficeWorks are eligible!

Internet Projects:

  • Microsoft [Serviced Offices]
  • Apple [Shops]
  • Google [Project Loon]
  • Facebook Connectivity Project
Grants should be squarely aimed at Community Groups
  • Co-working Spaces
  • Serviced Offices
  • Libraries
  • Independent Cafes
  • Religious Organisations
  • Other Not-for-Profits
And not to forget Private Businesses whom want to provide Internet!

NBN arguments against residential high speed - not that economic
  1. Comparatively minor cost when compared to other residential expenses - e.g. kitchens & bathrooms
  2. Still require an active ecosystem - if router is not 100% correctly configured they will blame the connection
  3. Most residential people are plain not interested in high-speed Internet
The goal is for low-cost, reliable and ubiquitous Internet!

Too many Sports Organisations in Switzerland!

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/23/sports/olympics/switzerland-global-sports-capital-seeks-new-recruits.html

Yes, there's too many 65+ in Switzerland including the IOC (including FIG & others) & FIFA! Time to switch out a couple methinks!

FINA should do a move to Brisbane soon?
Perhaps somewhere around Redcliffe?

Trump wouldn't survive in Australia after a Natural Disaster ??

Imagine if he called a drought 'dry', a flood 'wet' and a bushfire 'hot'?

Or a cyclone 'windy' ??

Time to call a leadership spill and he would be out the next day?

Apparently under the Presidential system the President wields much more power than under the Australian system ~
maybe these checks & balances are not perfect and the President of the US as the Leader of the Free World does have a bit too much responsibility?

Designer Suit Brands for Military Uniforms

I've been wanting to do this for a while ...
Gucci, Prada, Armani, Versace, Hugo Boss for the top brass!

Need to make sure they are Security Checked though as they are probably all made in China!

A big fan of Unisex toilets (with disability facilities)

These are meant as a complement to Male / Female not supplement.

They give a great deal of flexibility - Females require more time to go to the toilet for example.
And it also caters to LGBT - transgender etc ... !!

A must have for any new office I think and if existing offices could afford it.

Am also in favour of taking space from the existing Male / Female bathrooms if possible / and if need be.

A few more ideas for Beauty and the Geek Penultimate Challenge Settings

Unlikely if this show will ever make a come-back but 2020 has given this post new impetus, even if the show might not come back! I am perso...
