SharePoint: Mastery of your Unstructured Data!

If your organisation has mastered SharePoint then your Executive CxO will know

This includes in addition to the standard Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc ...) documents:

  1. SharePoint Content Types i.e. typically Templates: Memos, Meeting Agendas, Meeting Minutes etc ... bear in mind Content Types are very broad
  2. .xml files including .xsld, .xslt files
  3. PDFs
  4. Picture files .jpg, .gif, .png
  5. .txt, .rtf files
  6. .html files
  7. Data stored in SharePoint Custom lists
  8. Other SharePoint lists - Announcements, Promoted Links etc ...
  9. Task Lists
And so on ...

SharePoint revolves around Lists!

Earlier versions of SharePoint were called Microsoft 'Office' SharePoint Server - but documents are only one part of SharePoint - really they are only a type of LIST!

In any organisation this semi-structured data - LISTS are everywhere not even written down in a physical form - present in conversations etc ...

It's certainly something everyone wants to capture in SharePoint (eventually)!

Closed Source built on top of Open Source - The Public Cloud

As you might this is in reference to all the Public Cloud guys - most would assess them as being not much of a threat to Microsoft.

Cloud Company
Notes
Google
A special case
Amazon
AWS is not that exciting – in any event they are the only
organisation that has managed to borrow at an interest rate less than the US Government!
Facebook
Social Media – an area Microsoft should stay way from
Twitter
Same as Facebook
Eventbrite
Good at what they do – but your information will always be siloed – the restrictions and limitations of the Public Cloud are quite apparent
Survey Monkey
As above

Similarly ISVs should learn that Operating Systems and Compilers are some of the toughest things to develop in Computer Science - areas that Microsoft has tremendous products and advantages in!

If you get through a Computer Science degree you'll gain an appreciation for that ...

You would think that ISV's are smart enough to know that they don't stand a chance against the likes of Microsoft, etc .. ??

Plug – In Coding Standards – simplifying your xRM code when you implement for a Customer

xRM ISVs would do the opposite of what is described here.

Coding

Assume Plug–In, customizations etc … have been correctly configured:
  • No need to check for infinite loop detection
  • No need to use dynamic entities
  • No need to check against the right entity
  • Assume entity is correctly configured
  • Assume custom attributes have been correctly configured

This will:
  • reduce lines of code
  • make code easier to read [less indents]
  • ‘optimised’ – cut out unnecessary checks

By default throw InvalidPluginExecutionException.

Configuration

By default set Plug-Ins to Asynchronous Pre-stage.

  • Asynchronous Plug – Ins can be faster to execute since they move to a queue.
  • An infinite loop is less likely to occur with a Pre – Stage plug – in since you don’t need to call an Update generally.

Naming

  • No need to prefix Plug-In in .cs file name
  • No need to prefix Plug-In in Class name
  • No need to prefix Plug-In in Namespace
  • No need to prefix Plug-In in Solution name
  • No need to prefix tenancy in .cs file name
  • No need to prefix tenancy in Class name
  • No need to prefix tenancy in Namespace
  • No need to prefix tenancy in Solution name

Similar – no need to use Hungarian notation – look at declaration - class is inherited from Plug-In

Tenancy Management – can read it from Security Key – not necessary to prefix each class within a tenancy

Grouping Projects

  • Use Separate Solutions for un-related plug-ins, put each project in a separate solution if needed – will make it easier to isolate bugs
  • Use Separate Namespaces for un-related Classes.

Voluntary Repayments to Centrelink (possibly with low interest)

At the time of writing this is not possible but DHS should have this facility to at least have the choice ~ applies to both Newstart and the Disability Pension

Whilst most job seekers may not have cash at their disposal at the time they apply for benefits - you could also think of recipients as being able to make a repayment at some time in the future - but not at a specific time that is know as yet - and then the characteristics of the payment could then change accordingly!

Newstart is not much $$$ - in the 21st Century Australians can go on to do bigger and better things!

You can actually achieve quite a bit with the Internet access and telephones the other job seekers don't want to use!

---

Importantly you can also apply a DISCOUNT to your total repayments if the Government kept you on regular Newstart and it was (very) counterproductive!

Amongst the best Departments for the Commonwealth Government to have a wider role:

That the Territories and States (might) accede:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Police

The list goes on!

Wizards of the Coast having a forward printing location in Singapore

Ultimately bring down the RRP of boosters (across Asia-Pacific)
i.e.
Australia, New Zealand etc ...
for the game we all love!

Arguments in favour:
  1. Lower shipping costs from Singapore
  2. Cheaper labour costs in Asia
  3. Distribution costs are lower since you are closer to the Retail Outlets
  4. Wizards IP is protected in Singapore
  5. A printing base closer to the large China market

Tips for 70-331 & 70-332 SharePoint Exams

  • The SharePoint knowledge it tests you on is very, very wide
  • They do some very advanced scenarios and combinations of SharePoint technology
  • You can get tested on some very, very specific cases
Make sure you use:
  • Fast Internet
  • Reasonably fast thin clients
  • Proper Server Environments
  • Microsoft Curricula
  • Closed Source Licenses of course

This could be the only way to 'tame the SharePoint beast'

Role for up to 2 Vice-Captains in Cricket (and other sports)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vice-captain

Time for at least 1 or even 2 Vice Captains to share at some of the duties of the Captain.

An Expanded Role of the Captain:

To fulfill the aims of Cricket Board ~ this may not necessarily be to win!!

  1. Increase the profile of the game
  2. Increase the profile of the game to youth
  3. Other charity work
  4. Front to the media
  5. Outcome of the whole series

Role of Vice-Captain:

  1. Set up bowling
  2. Set up fielding
  3. Responsible for outcomes match to match

Bearing in mind the cricket team is also enlarged with 3 subs:

Speaking of which talking about spreading Cricket to a wider audience - whatever happened to "Classic Catches"?

FIFA Windows for Asian Cup 2019 and Subsequent Continental Competitions

Really has a 'Commonwealth Games' feel about it ... good step would be for it to play in a special window where it doesn't 'collide' with English Premier League etc ...

So the AFC should start having a conversation about 'common' dates.

It really doesn't make any sense for the A-League to run (at all) when the Asian Cup is being played!

Don't they need ALL the players ??

Twenty20 tilted too heavily in favour of batsmen

Twenty20 is about saving time, having more events be it:

  • more runs
  • more run outs
  • more wickets
  • etc ...

Some ideas to help the bowlers:

  • restrict equipment changes for the batsmen (e.g. gloves and bats)
  • restricting warm-ups for batsmen
  • if the batsmen is not ready to take a shot they have been deemed to have abandoned their wicket and are thus out
  • ...

Also see my previous post on enlarging a cricket team to be 11 players + 3 substitutes
https://productive-business.blogspot.com/2018/11/test-cricket-special-for-satya.html

In this Professional Sport you really need to do everything you can to save every second!

Community Games Store

Emphasis Core Values Of:
Community - it's about bringing people together;
Use of Community Spaces where rent is subsidised by Local Council for all events including major ones - maintain a minimal private footprint during the week
Use of portable Merchant Stands and opening up Warehouses to the public

Technology - embrace technology & innovation where it helps our events and our players
e.g:

  •  Contactless credit cards, accept payments with PayPal
  • Internet for managing events
  • Smartphones to help with Counters etc …
At the same time we're not about playing computer games by yourself, technology peacefully co-exists with our physical games to bring people together to socialise
Key ~ technology & physical game
Use low cost and do not maintain expensive web sites, leverage other web sites
 e.g:

  • oFacebook
  • o Google

Sustainability - at the same time avoid unnecessary travel cost, encourage car pooling
- facilitate second hand trading so and avoids putting more rubbish in our tips, taking items on consignment, recycling bins and recycling programs in store
Dona ability- accept donations and items too good to throw out, we accept other contributions from our community

**Profitability** - must be commercially viable and make good business sense, yet still allow our partners, investor etc ... to - keeping prices and overheads low, procure efficiently and profitably, we must use effective tax minimisation strategies, encouraging barter
Use business practices that benefits our customers, partners, suppliers (Wizards) investors and ourselves, moving lots of stock rather that it sitting there gathering dust
Distribution must cut out double and triple handling
We continually expand our customer base in many ways

Analysis of RRP for Boosters
Everything reasonable should be done to cut the price of boosters - realising our game is still a hobby
From the US in a box of 36 a booster is $2.50 - RRP should be comparable to this - WoTC could give 40% margin to stores if they hit Sales Targets!
And in the future this will increase the base to 5 x number of players!

Better Names for A-League Teams.

In comparison to other teams around the World - I think these are a bit dull - in comparison to other team names around the World anyway e.g. in Europe, North America etc ...

Brisbane Roar, Sydney FC, Adelaide United etc ...

Probably time to have a few brainstorming sessions !!

Might be better of just using the city name or geographic area
e.g. Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide

Using Indigenous names might not be a bad idea either ...

Australian Places for Microsoft Codenames!

Well I can't wait until they start using holiday destinations again for products Microsoft are developing!

Here are the (Australian) suggestions at the top of the list:

  • Kakadu
  • Uluru
  • Bussellton
  • Sunshine (Coast)
  • Gold (Coast)
  • Cairns
  • ...

Differential Tolling on Australian Roads

  • Will need to subsidise the  costs for Pensioners & Disabled People.
  • Businesses can afford to pay the Toll Prices due tolls often being a tax deduction etc ...

In effect allows for (partial) privatisation of the road.

We can then have more money that needs to be funneled towards the free roads!

It would also save governments removing the toll and putting the toll back on etc ...

  • Polly Pipe
  • Gold Coast Highway
  • Sunshine Coast Motorway
  • ...

What does SharePoint do ... in very, very simple terms.

In very layman terms and for non - professionals in SharePoint (vaguely) :

  • Possibly ~Portal / Intranet …
  • Unstructured [Productivity] Data
  • Working Together!
