80% of the functionality at 20% of the cost
Working from home -> working from a hub
- Residential zoning is not light Industrial!
- Temperature control
- Electricity – plug in all these devices and knock out your appliances!
- Adverse effects on liquidity of the Property
We don’t want high mobile and data reception everywhere! Only high data & reception in certain designated hubs!
Telehealth and TeleEducation Scenarios are more economic through Fibre to the Hub:
also even for Internet TV there are many provisions for making Content available off-line
- the only exception is Live Sport!

Most interesting scenarios (and should therefore get most of the funding)
NBN Co. - a Grants Management company - not to drown in technical details!
For Profit Businesses:
- Large Restaurant Chains (e.g. McDonalds)
- Large Cafe Chains (e.g. Coffee Club, Dome, etc ...)
Even Bunnings and OfficeWorks are eligible!
Internet Projects:
- Microsoft [Serviced Offices]
- Apple [Shops]
- Google [Project Loon]
- Facebook Connectivity Project
Grants should be squarely aimed at Community Groups
- Co-working Spaces
- Serviced Offices
- Libraries
- Independent Cafes
- Religious Organisations
- Other Not-for-Profits
And not to forget Private Businesses whom want to provide Internet!
NBN arguments against residential high speed - not that economic
- Comparatively minor cost when compared to other residential expenses - e.g. kitchens & bathrooms
- Still require an active ecosystem - if router is not 100% correctly configured they will blame the connection
- Most residential people are plain not interested in high-speed Internet
The goal is for low-cost, reliable and ubiquitous Internet!
