Real-life Content Types in Action!

Many more items will be added to this list, currently if you Google examples of Content Types tend to be a bit abstract:

  1. Memorandums
  2. Military Operations
  3. Reports such as the Mueller Report!

So any Report could (generally) be represented by a Content Type ~
 a reusable set of metadata

And importantly a specific Word Template can be associated with such Content Types!

The 'Mueller Report' would be significant enough to have it's own Content Type as it would have gone through many releases (as well as versions).

Of course this gives rise to the use of Content Type Syndication to 'standardise'  Content Types across farms.

To give some common examples that are thrown around

  • Meeting Agendas
  • Meeting Minutes

can be pretty straightforward e.g. a couple of bullet points or a text file - depends on how much control an organisation wants to exert on this particular set of metadata etc ...

ACT Government - Councils and Territory Government into One (1) Level of Government

This works pretty well I think;

Two great observations about the ACT Government:
  1. It is a great example of the right geographic size and population for smaller councils around Australia whom think that if they amalgamate they will be too big!
  2. Ever since Woden, Belconnen, Civic etc ... disappeared as separate entities has seen not so much growth specifically around these clusters but in other areas around the Territory as well e.g. Lanyton etc ... as it turns into more integrated mass!
You can apply this 'observation' on a more advanced scale to other forms of reducing levels of Government as well - i.e. if you were able to reduce levels of State Government for example.

So that's great if that's what you're looking for!

Applying FIFO and DIDO to affordable housing in Australia

One of many links:
https://www.facs.nsw.gov.au/providers/housing/affordable/about/chapters/what-is-affordable-housing

Well we can always start by trying this:

In Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne instead of trying to buy a 3 bedroom house on a quarter acre block - because the supply of these is limited ;

Buy a 2 bedroom apartment for the weekday and a (bigger) weekend house just about anywhere else:

  • Toowoomba
  • Rockhampton
  • Dubbo
  • Brisbane
  • Adelaide
  • ...

the list goes on!

This may well work for most of us!

Targeting a Global Audience.

This is always great of course particularly with the Internet (provided you have the platform) - compared to just doing business around the local area.

In the Australian example:

Population of the World / Population of Australia
=
7.5 billion / 25 million
=
7500 / 2
=
300

Hence your market is (at least) 300x bigger!

Since Microsoft has had a fairly big role to play in Globalisation - I designate ~Microsoft on posts which have this theme!

Productivity Software

We're not so much about raw data,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data

We're not that concerned too much with
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_code
More
Meta-code or Pseudo-code

But
Data that is represented in some form that is better for processing:
is
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information !

And that will lead you to being successful when you implement your;

And this leads to the generation of more business activity,

Wages rises without Genuine Productivity increases just leads to Inflation!

Encouraging Diversity in the Workforce

To encourage diversity in the workforce and more female participation I would discourage / refrain against ‘blunt instruments’ like hard quotas …

On the other hand there are many excellent methods of encouraging Diversity including:

  • Soft quotas
  • The Taxation Office should start looking to allow some deductions for makeup, dresses, jewellery …

Honestly to tell you the truth looking around at clothes shopping would lead you to draw the conclusion collectively society is not doing well!

  • You have underwear and swimwear shops –
  • Underwear is covered up when you wear that to work
  • And wearing swimwear to work ~ well you just can’t do that
  • Many women's casual wear around
  • More women’s shops around women’s suits and formal gear
    • Who wants to look at a bunch of guys in suits?

And as well know having company profile photos of a whole bunch of guys is not a good look!

There is (I think) are very strong and almost irrefutable argument for letting girls and women into nightclubs for free -
and I don't think it's a breach of the Racial Discrimination Act!

E-businesses for those who have Brick & Mortar shops

If you have been considering getting onto eBay/Amazon, Gumtree or Shopify etc ... and you already have an existing shop you will find an online shopping cart a very low risk, high return investment and probably a no-brainer as you do not have the hassle of starting a brand new business!

This is particularly applicable to:

  • Independent Shops
  • Second-Hand Shops
  • Merchants selling from home
  • Part-time shops (e.g. those that go sell at Weekend Markets)

Similar principle to already owning valuable business documents before you implement SharePoint and migrate all your documents and lists to it:

Existing Documents, Records in SharePoint

If you have large repositories of (which have a history of being physical):

  • Microsoft Office Documents including
    • Word
    • Excel
    • PowerPoint
    • Visio
    • XML
    • Text Files
  • What might be termed 'SharePoint Records'
    • PDF
    • Picture files (.jpg, .png, tiff etc ...)
    • Audio Files
    • Video Files

which are valuable to your business, the only challenge then is to migrate these repositories into Document Centers, Record Centers ~ into SharePoint!

Your Return on Investment is then subject to:

And as you already have all of your data (as opposed for waiting a while for it to be created) you will get your ROI straight away!

You can also expand this to include existing:

  1. Web Content Management Systems (e.g. Drupal, other open-source systems)
  2. Already existing internal Wikis
  3. Old Community Web Sites
  4. Business Intelligence files (e.g. Crystal Reports from before)
  5. etc ...
